Door Construction

The door type of your cabinet or vanity can drastically effect the price of your overall cabinet purchase. Thoughtfully selecting the type of door construction for your remodel will help you achieve not only the look you are going for in your home but also ensure you stay on budget. 

Traditional Overlay

With a traditional overlay you will have the frame of the door visible between the doors of on the cabinet. This is the most affordable door style and is timeless throughout home construction. This cabinet overly looks great in both kitchens and bathrooms. 

Full Overlay

With a full cabinet door overlay the doors cover the entire cabinet width. This is the second most affordable style and has a much more modern look and feel. This style looks great with both short and tall style cabinets and allows for a more modern look on a budget. 

Inset

An inset cabinet door is a type of cabinet door design commonly used in kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. Unlike overlay doors, which partially cover the cabinet frame, inset doors are set flush with the cabinet frame, creating a seamless and clean appearance. These door types tend to the the most expensive door types but have a fantastic finish! 

Slab

A slab cabinet door is a type of cabinet door design known for its simplicity and contemporary aesthetics. It is characterized by a flat, unadorned front surface that lacks the detailing, raised panels, or frames commonly found in other cabinet door styles. This is an more affordable way to achieve a modern look.

The drawer of the cabinet in both a kitchen and bath is the most used part of the cabinet. So, determining the right drawer construction for your budget and preference is key. 

Particle Board- Furniture Board

Particleboard, often used in furniture and cabinet construction, is an engineered wood product made from wood particles, sawdust, or wood chips that are bound together using adhesive resins and compressed under high pressure. This results in a dense and uniform sheet material that has various applications, including making furniture and cabinets. This is considered a “good” option for cabinet drawers from industry standards. 

Plywood Drawer Box

A plywood cabinet drawer with dovetail construction is a high-quality and sturdy drawer typically used in furniture and cabinetry. Dovetail joinery is a popular method for connecting the sides of the drawer to the front, creating a strong and visually appealing joint. This is considered a “better” option for cabinet drawers.
